My Grandpa

Today started off pretty busy. My mom and I went to get oil changes for our cars and then I had to go get a gift from a friend of the family. My uncle called this morning to let us know that my grandpa probably wouldn't make it through the night tonight. I wanted to go see him but I had so much stuff to do so I figured I would go see him when I got my errands finished. We'd gotten a couple calls like this before so I wasn't in too much of a hurry to get to the nursing home.

So I went to pick up the gift and headed to Starbucks with Kat, Carter, and Ezra. We exchanged gifts and had a great time. I love Ezra to pieces and of course it's always great seeing Kat and Carter. After I went to Starbucks I went to Safeway to pick up some groceries and then headed home.

So I get home and I told my mom and brother about the great time I had, that I had mom's gift ready for her and showed them pictures of Ezra. They both had a strange look on their faces and I wondered if they were holding the news back but figured that they would have told me right when I come home. So I'm sitting at the dining room table flipping through the pictures of Ezra again and my mom's on the phone with a friend and I heard her say, "my dad passed away today." I looked up at them both and said, "What?! You didn't tell me that!" and completely broke down. My immediate reaction was that I should have gone to see him but I think I'm over that now. I don't know. I feel like I'm in a fog.

Thankfully, my grandma was right there by his side. My mom, her brother, and my aunt had seen him before he died but had decided to give my grandma some time alone with him. When my uncle and the rest of them went back into the room he noticed my grandpa wasn't breathing. He died in his sleep without suffering. My grandma hadn't even noticed he was gone. My mom said my grandma was so sweet. When she left to go home, she patted him on the head and gave him a kiss.

Anyway, it was so like my grandpa not to die on Christmas day. Even though he wasn't there, I'm sure in some way, he had a hand in making sure it happened before tomorrow. We went to see him last night and I tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't wake up. Now I will never forget how he felt and I am glad I went to see him last night.

Our last semi-conversation (it's been difficult to talk to him since he's been in the last stage of Alzheimer's) I'll never forget. Usually he'd just give you a yes or no answer and I'm not sure even knew what he was saying yes or no about. He was so cute. I said, "I love you daddy!" (that's what I called him growing up since my dad wasn't in my life) and he replied, "Well, that's up to you."

Yes, it is up to me and I loved him with all my heart.

Sluggity Slug Slug

We have had the lazyest weekend. Chris flew in lat Friday night and since then we've pretty much just been watching movies and relaxing. Saturday morning I went to pick up Microsoft Office at Aaron's, ran some errands, and went to lunch at Black Angus. Last night we watched Chuck and Larry On Demand with Adam Sandler, which was actually pretty funny! They try to convince people they're gay after one is denied his pension after the death of his wife.

OH, and we found all of the old home movies mom thought I had thrown away! Phew! Glad I didn't. I had managed, however, in the 90210 days, to record over footage of Dachau concentration camp, Neuschwanstein, and some of Chris at 36 months. Now we'll never forget the "Donna Martin Graduate!" show. Thank Goodness!

Today we caught snowflakes the size of the palms of our hands, watched Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, and now we're off to visit the grandparents in the hospital.

Hellllooooo Christmas break!

Yay for Christmas break starting today! It was a frustrating day, too. Good thing it was only a half day. L called me last night to tell me she was taking care of the movie for a class reward today. She'll bring the DVD. She asked about Pay it Forward, I said not appropriate. So we decided on Shrek 3. So Kevin and I are setting up the video equipment in the gym, where we were going to watch the movie. 30 minutes later, we can not get the damn thing to work! So I bring in a regular TV stand and it was doing the same thing....we get sound but no picture. Now it's 45 minutes later, the two classes are now in the bleachers eating popcorn and waiting. So up on the screen shows "track 1:35". Tracks? On a DVD? OMGOSH she brought a fricken SING ALONG CD. UGH!!!!!!!!!!! So I was like, screw it, send the kids back but L was insistent we put Pay it Forward in. I didn't want to get into an argument infront of the kids so what the hell, she put it in. After the gun and car crash the movie intro's with, the scene at the strip club the mom works in, and a few cuss words, I told L that we should NOT be watching the movie. She wouldn't give in. SO a few minutes later, the VP walks in and says we shouldn't be watching the movie...well DUH. L still argued the point, saying "but it has a good message." Yeah, you'll learn about a good message when we get parent phone calls and get in trouble. I was just so irritated. I love L to death but sometimes she just will not back down about things and this time I could get in trouble for it.

Any way, after school, I went shopping with Karlyn, Robin, and Janet and then to the Sea Galley for their salad bar and wine (I had Pepsi). Turned out to be a decent day but the movie thing is still bugging me. I can't blame it all on her...I could have made a scene and removed the DVD but I didn't so I get to suffer the consequences if parents call to bitch.

So now I'm housesitting trying not to be completely annoyed by their cat and attempting to relax. I think I'll start up their fire place and cuddle up on their couch with a good book and a blanket. Yeah, that sounds good.

My first Digital Scrapbook Page

I made my first scrapbook page! It took me foreeeeeeeeever but I feel like I'm learning Photoshop all over again because it's been so long since I've used it, aside from the header of this blog. These are pictures of Eric's daughter Skylar. Is she not the cutest!? I'm not sure if this will go in one of my books, but it is a good start and I learned a couple things while making it. I love the colors and the sketchbook quality.

Melody Lane

We went to the Melody Lane Academy of Performing arts Christmas recital last night at the Capitol Theater to watch my friend Stacy's daughter Miranda and some students dance their socks off. It was the best recital I've seen. The smallest ballerinas had the tutu's that were so huge and puffy it gave you chills (cute overload!) and most of them had little clue what they were doing but they were trying and there was always one who was stealing the show! The oldest dancers were outstanding. One kid will be seen dancing on stages in New York, I'm sure of it. And Miranda just lights up the stage. She is such a talented little dancer and her smile just gives you goosebumps. Her first dance was a contemporary dance and as soon as I spotted her the tears started pouring! I'm such a wussy girl!

Anyway, it was soooo good and I'm very impressed with Melody Lane. Now I wish I had my own little girl to dress up and watch her dance! Some day!
